• How to assess asthma severity based on history, lung function and medication needed for control

• The role of environmental factors in asthma

• The general principles of management, including environmental control, inhaled corticosteroid therapy, and adjustment of medication in response to disease variability

• The importance of patient education and written asthma self-management plans in the management of asthma.
